Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone
|I drank the Brené Brown Koolaid after hearing non-stop about her books. I decided to start with this one because I’ll be blunt….I often feel like a lone wolf…and it gets very hard.
This was way different than any other book I have read and I am so glad I got Audible to listen to it. Brene unpacks so much into a pretty short book. The need to fit vs. belonging, how hate stems and ebbs its way through society at times, and why politics take an integral part in belonging.
I am just starting to educate myself on things such as systematic racism, tone policing, etc. and this was a great book to start with. I have read reviews that say this book wasn’t warranted because her others are similar, so I will be reading those soon.
The general theme is that the world can be scary and we are in somewhat in a state of disarray, but by allowing ourselves to be brave and learn about others, despite opposing beliefs/views/etc. for fear of being rejected.
P.S. Anyone who mentions Leo from The West Wing AND Harry Potter in one book, becomes an author I will want to read again!
