|I went into this expecting to be scared. I went into this expecting a vivid forest atmosphere. I came out of this with all those expectations being met. I have heard of Darcy Coates and have some other books of hers in my queue. I was really wanting to read something set in a forest for some reason. So when I saw the cover and plot, I jumped to get it.
This was a nerve wrecking, “I am never going in the woods again”, scary but could totally happen story. I guess this author is known for horror, but this was like a mixture of horror, mystery, and police thriller.
After his sister goes missing while hiking, Chris grabs some friends and is hell bent on finding the monster that took his sister. Elsewhere, Carla is a cop dealing with a lot of shit and it’s about to get worse when the woods have seemingly claimed another victim.
Go into this blind. Don’t read spoilers or anything! Some have said it reminds them of a certain movie, and while I totally admit that I did too, that doesn’t matter because it still held it’s own! And just a finally note, don’t plan on getting any sleep because it was that scary and nerve wrecking! Going on to my 2020 favorites!
