The Last Time I Lied
Two truths and lie.
1. I am so obsessed with Final Girls and now this book and have spent hours looking for hard copies of the UK version. (Those covers)!😍
2. I was a miserable thirteenish year old the first few days of camp….day camp. And no joke…the head director was named Franny.
3. I hated this book.
I honestly was hesitant to read this because I was scared it wouldn’t live up to my expectations because I loved Final Girls and sometimes authors lack after their debut(however I found out Riley Sager has many names…you sneaky sneaky man) so this wasn’t his second rodeo.
The Last Time I Lied….I honestly can’t even begin to explain how much I loved this book. At first I didn’t think I would like it since I’ve never been to a camp (aside from like a one night stay in Girl Scouts or something). However, once we got the ball rolling on Emma’s past, present, as well as ghosts, horny teens, creepy old ladies, hidden villages, etc…I. WAS. HOOKED. I honestly was fully intending to wait to read this on vacation next week since we are going to a lake, but instead stayed up until the sun was peaking out and then tried to wrap my head around that ending!
I am just still in shock how perfectly he captured the personalities of all the different teen girls as well as everyone else. Normally if a book has too many characters(I’m looking at you George R.R Martin) I get lost trying to keep track of who’s who, but this worked! There were so many possible villains, that I was for once stumped until the very end! Although I did want to smack Mindy….
It was like Mr. Sager took all of my favorite movies ( Mean Girls, Parent Trap, Addams Family Values, The Ring, Shutter Island….and I don’t know, Atlantis?) as well as friggen Pretty Little Liars and made it into a book!
Seriously, I am still just ughhhhhhhhhh in awe of this one! That ending…..
I need a friggen s’more. And wine.
